Birmingham hosted a huge celebration event at the weekend to welcome taking on the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The games handover commissioned by Culture Central on behalf of Birmingham City Council and The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport was broadcast live by the BBC.

Staging Services were asked to deliver a number of tired platforms, podiums and camera risers for the event by Dock Street Events, the company commissioned to provide the live event technical and operational aspects for the handover.

The handover took place during the 2018 Games' closing ceremony on Australia's Gold Coast, with, organisers said, a potential TV audience of up to one billion. As the flag was handed over to Lord Mayor Anne Underwood on Sunday, Victoria Square erupted into colour.

We were back in Victoria square again this week, this time preparing for the athletes grand Welcome Home event.

Staging Services are proud to be playing a part in Birmingham's Commonwealth Games campiagn and we’re very much looking forward to supporting the games when they land in the city in 2022.
